A spy party game for one phone

Use the settings above to start a free spy game online with people around you. Everyone except the spies receives the same secret word. Ask questions, listen for answers that do not fit, and work out who is bluffing. You only need one phone and 3 to 12 players, so there are no cards to print or accounts to create.

How to play in four steps

  1. Choose your settings. Pick the number of players and spies, then set a round timer. Random mode keeps the word secret from everyone until roles are dealt. With a custom word, remember that the person typing it already knows the answer.
  2. Pass the phone. Each player privately reveals their card, hides it, and passes the phone on. Citizens see the shared word; spies learn only their role. Keep the screen out of everyone else's sight.
  3. Ask questions. Take turns asking about the word without naming it. Give enough detail to reassure the other citizens, but leave the spy some work to do. Listen for contradictions across answers.
  4. Discuss and vote. If the group agrees on a suspect, check their role. A correct accusation catches a spy; a wrong accusation gives the spies the win. A spy can also reveal themselves and try to win by guessing the word.

Agree on voting and guessing before the first round. Read the full spy game rules together if anyone is new, and start with fewer spies while everyone learns.

No install, no sign-up

One person opens the site and the group shares that phone. Once loaded, role cards and the timer run on the device without a continuous connection. Cached random words also work offline; reconnect when you need fresh words, or enter a custom word. You can optionally add the game to your home screen for the next gathering.

Choose a word everyone knows

Browse the full English word list for places, food, jobs, objects and situations. Familiar words give everyone a fair chance to participate. Start with everyday topics for mixed ages, then try more challenging words once the group is comfortable. Switch categories between rounds so the spy cannot rely on the last game's theme.

Ask questions that leave room for doubt

Ask about experiences, uses or circumstances instead of spelling out the answer. “Would you go there alone?” can produce useful clues for many locations. Use the sample spy game questions when the conversation stalls, and read the strategy tips for spies and citizens for ways to answer without revealing too much. Give quieter players a turn too: the game works best when everyone has a chance to speak.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play online with friends far away?

This version is for people together in the same room, passing one phone around. It has no online rooms, invitation links, or role delivery to separate phones. Online means it opens in your browser; it does not provide remote multiplayer.

How many players and spies do we need?

Play with 3 to 12 people. Start with one spy for 3 to 5 players, or two spies for 6 to 8. Fewer spies make the first round easier while everyone learns how to ask useful questions.

Do I need an app or an account?

No. Open the site and choose your settings. You do not need an email address or phone number. Adding the game to your home screen is optional and gives you a convenient way to open it again.

Does it work offline?

Open the site online the first time. Once loaded, roles and the timer run on your phone. Cached random words can also be used offline; when that supply runs out, reconnect for fresh words or enter a custom word.

Does the spy see the secret word?

No. Citizens see the shared word and spies only see their role. Spies must work out the word from the conversation. Keep your card away from other players and hide it before handing over the phone.

Can I enter my own word?

Yes. Choose Custom word and enter something everyone knows. Whoever enters it already knows the answer, so random mode is fairer when everyone wants a hidden role. The word list can also give you ideas for later rounds.
